Shelene’s Farewell Speech

October 14, 2011  //  Posted by: Ben  //  Category: Uncategorized

Good evening ladies and gentleman

It’s been a year now and it’s now time for me to say goodbye. It’s not easy but it is something that needs to be done. This year has opened my eyes and heart even more to the need there is in and around our community, and I can only thank God for giving me this opportunity.

This journey for me was one I will never forget and that is why I want to thank only a few of the many people that supported and helped me through the year.

Elize Steyn, The official Photographer of the pageant who took so much of her time to go with me wherever I was busy with my projects to take pictures and support me.

All the people who sponsored me throughout the year, without you the projects would not be possible.

Leilanie at Beauty Spot, for doing my nails during the year. Wow, I was spending so much time with you and whenever I arrived there I could just talk about whatever is on my heart and mind.

Marti Will from Vista, just thank you. Thank you so much for every single thing you did for me. Thursdays were my favourite day of the week.

And then, my familie, dankie vir al julle ondersteuning, raad gee en ook harde werk deur die jaar. Mamma, Sias en Wayne, julle het ook op julle manier die title met my gedeel  en was by so te se al die projekte, agter die gordyne altyd besig om of, rond te ry vir my of om persente toe te draai.

Oupa, ouma, Jafta, Maria, dankie data julle my ook ondeersteun het.

Mamma D, DD or as most of you know her, Pageant owner Dulcie, words can’t even describe what you have meant ti me during this year. I have learned so much from you and wish that there were more people like you in the world. Thank you for carrying me when times got rough. I am truly blessed to have met a person in my life like you.

To the new Miss Goldfields, Good luck and remember that with great power comes great responsibility. May your year be as wonderful as mine was.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs

To the rest of the girls, you don’t need a crown or a title to make a difference, grow where you are planted.

In life every ending is just a new beginning and now its time for me to focus in what lies ahead of me and carry this life changing experience in my heart forever

Thank You.

Shelene Van Rooyen.

My life as Miss Goldfields till now

June 10, 2011  //  Posted by: Shelene  //  Category: Charity Work, Events

Being crowned as Miss Goldfields 2010 changed my life in so many ways.

It gave me the opportunity to meet so many new people and most of them sharing the passion I have, a passion to help other people that are less fortune than what I am and to get involved in quite a lot of community projects and doing my own projects as well. I am constantly meeting new people. Working full time, studying and keeping up with everything that is going on in our community it’s quite a hard job and it can’t be done without my Heavenly Father. I can not thank Him enough for giving me the opportunity to do what I love, to follow my passion, helping others!!

On the 25 th of September 2010 I was crowned and since then I have been busy al the time.   This is what has been going on in my life since them. Browse thru the photos, read the comments and feel free to give feedback.

Only three days after I have been crowned everything already started, I had an interview with vista on the 28 September .It was done by Marti Will; she is one of the judges and works for Vista, the main Sponsor for the Miss Goldfields pageant.

Pep stores donate a toy

Tipeng rubbish dump, just outside Welkom. A must see.

Myself, Dulcie (Owner of the pageant) and Elize Steyn (Photographer of the pageant) went there and we gave the people old clothes and some toiletries. It was just before Christmas and we wanted them to feel that we care about them as well.

CANSA breast cancer walk.

I made bandanas with the help of Dulcie my manager and the owner of the Vista Miss Goldfields pageant and we sold it at the Breast cancer walk. We made the public aware that not only do us humans get cancer but animals get it too. Some of the funds raised thru selling the bandanas were donated to the SPCA and the rest to CANSA.

Christmas Eve in Thabong.

Christmas is a time for sharing… On Christmas Eve 2010 I went along with the Thabong crime unit into Thabong and gave out presents. There were children everywhere!! They were all smiling. I played some Christmas songs just to create the perfect mood for the occasion.

Switching on of the lights for the festive period and the birthday of Matjabeng municipality.

Matjabeng municipality was celebrating their 10th birthday in 2010 and I arranged ten children from around the Welkom area to come and sing happy birthday to them in central park in Welkom. The celebration was held along with the switching on of the Christmas lights.

1 December is national AIDS day. I know my status, do you? I encourage everyone to take the one day test that was being launched at Harmony mine, and to know their status.

CANSA relay for life.

I was part of the committee for the REALY FOR LIFE 2011. I was responsible for the marketing of the event. Cancer touches all big and small. Touched my heart as well.

Vista gholfday

Vista my main sponsor is holding a gholfday each year at the Oppenheimer gholf club. Me and my two princesses was there ensuring that all the gholf players got something to drink while they were busy playing.

Not only judging beauty pageants but also talent competitions is part of what I am doing. I was a judge at the Beyond 2000 competition.

Nayala house tea.

One of our local old age homes held a tea to raise funds to do improvements around their area and I was invited t be the guest speaker, it was a wonderful experience and all the tickets was sold out. Karla Bosch and a few other students from Teirell’s singing school was entertaining the people with their beautiful voices while the guests was enjoying some beverages.

Night with the OSCAR

I met Oscar the dog who traveled around the world t make people aware of the importance to care for our animals. It was during October that is National animal adoption month. Claws and the SPCA are always in need of animal food, there are so may abandoned animals that they take in and especially during the winter months its really hard for them to feed all the animals. They are doing a great job in our community!! Oscar is still traveling and spreading the news. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK OSCAR!

Lesang bana let the children come!

A new home for abandon children, in Welkom.  Elizabeth is a wonderful woman who started this home for children that have no where to go. When I heard about her and what she is doing I had to go and see for myself. I asked the community to donate old clothes to me and I took it to her. The children were so happy and it again made me relies how fortune we are, and that sometimes we take things for granted.

I am often invited to be a judge at beauty pageants; it is always nice sitting on the other end of the table, asking the questions and not being asked. I am always fair and try to make sure the guy or girl has the whole package, inside and out!! Some of the pageants I have judged during my year was the glamorous Mr. and Miss Riebie, Mr. and Miss Goutie and the Mr. and Miss Volkie.

Easter weekend.

children are very close to my heart and I feel that a child does not belong in hospital! They should enjoy life and get to know all the good things while being a child, but unfortunately life s hard and nor always fair. This is way I like visiting Bongani Hospital, there I can play with the children read them some books or just give some attention to the abandoned babies. On Easter Sunday I went to Bongani and gave the children some Easter eggs. They had so much fun and laughed like it should be for a child.

Mothers day in the Goldfields Mall.

I invited all the surrounding old age homes for a morning in the mall with me and some of the Miss Goldfields Finalists 2010. We arranged for them to be picked up and they had tea and cake in the mall. We decorated little tables for them and just enjoy the morning with them. We gave each one as little present to make them feel even more precious.

Pep stores donate a blanket, a huge success!!

We collected so many blankets and I am busy giving them out to people on the streets together with a message of hope. Local Businesses got involved in the projects and also donated blankets towards this project.
